Local sports roundup for Saturday, Feb. 27

Tessa Prellberg spearheaded a lopsided 61-19 win for Hinckley-Big Rock by handily outscoring DePue all on her own at home in Hinckley on Saturday.

Prellberg notched an impressive 29 points in the victory, while Ashleigh Wackerlin and Devin Werner chipped in with eight points apiece.

Hinckley-Big Rock 53, Plano 44: At Hinckley-Big Rock, the Royals secured their second win of the day thanks in large part to 15 points from Wackerlin.

Prellberg added to her productive day with 13 more points in win number two, while Avery Zabel also hit double-digit scoring with 10 points.

Huntley 50, Sycamore 44: At Sycamore, the Spartans suffered just their second loss of the season to drop their record to 8-2 overall.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Burlington Central 60, Kaneland 33: At Kaneland, the Knights fell behind early and were unable to recover in a loss to the visiting Rockets.

Kaneland dropped to 3-5 overall this season following the loss.

BOYS SWIMMING

Dekalb 114, Guilford 43: At DeKalb, the Barbs picked up a comfortable win with a bevy of first- and second-place finishes across multiple events.

Anthony Biundo and Jacob Gramer led the way with a pair of wins apiece. Biundo took the top spot for the Barbs in the 100 meter butterfly (56.37) and 100 breaststroke (1:04.77), while Gramer earned wins in the 200 individual medley (2:14.02) and 100 freestyle (52.93).

DeKalb also locked down individual victories from Max Palacios (500 free, 5:13.49), Timothy Braun (200 free, 1:55.13), Donny Gramer (50 free, 23.06) and Jared VanderSchee (100 backstroke, 58.92) en route to a commanding team win.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Eastern Michigan 91, Northern Illinois 57: At Ypsilanti (Mich.), the Huskies dropped to 2-15 overall with a road loss to the MAC West rival Eagles.

Tyler Cochran scored 20 points in the loss for NIU, while Trendon Hankerson scored 18 and Zool Kueth added 10.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Western Michigan 86, Northern Illinois 53: At Kalamazoo (Mich.), A 25-point showing from Chelby Koker wasn’t enough to keep the Huskies in range as they were held to a season-low 53 points.

Janae Poisson added eight points off the bench as NIU fell to 11-10 on the season.
