DeKalb County reports 34 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday

56,100 doses administered, 21.32% of DeKalb County population fully vaccination

DeKalb County recorded 34 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, according to local health officials Tuesday, bringing the total to 9,562 since the pandemic began.

No new deaths were reported, leaving the local death toll at 116, according to the DeKalb County Health Department.

According to Illinois Department of Public Health data, 56,100 total vaccine doses have been administered to DeKalb County residents, and 22,200 residents, or 21.32% of the county’s population of 104,143, have been fully vaccinated. The seven-day rolling average of doses administered to county residents is at 967, with 11,090 doses of total reported inventory, according to state numbers – 11,040 at the health department and 50 at community partners. The inventory numbers are according to state health officials, and may differ from local numbers, according to DeKalb County health officials.

The seven-day rolling positivity rate for Region 1, which runs north to Rockford and west to the Iowa border fell to 6.8%. The county positivity rate fell to 7.2%, down from 9.4% the day prior. Positivity rates are reported with a three-day data lag. Region 1 also reports a 7-day average of 123 COVID-19 patients hospitalized.

By the numbers

Another local long-term care facility re-entered viral outbreak mode Tuesday, with Heritage Woods in DeKalb reporting two employees with cases. That brings the total to four facilities battling the virus again.

Prairie Crossing Living and Rehabilitation Center in Shabbona with a case each in a staff member and resident. The DeKalb County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center report two cases in employees. Oak Crest-DeKalb Area Retirement Center reports two cases in employees.

Of the new cases, 10 were in residents 19 or younger, 11 in their 20s, seven in their 30s, one in their 40s, two in their 50s, two in their 60s, and one in their 80s or older.

In total, there have been 1,654 cases in DeKalb County residents 19 or younger, 2,306 in their 20s, 1,435 in their 30s, 1,322 in their 40s, 1,189 in their 50s, 810 in their 60s, 440 in their 70s and 405 in their 80s or older.

There have been 68 deaths reported in DeKalb County residents in their 80s or older, 18 in their 70s, 18 in their 60s, six in their 50s, three in their 40s, one in their 30s, one in their 20s, and one infant.

According to county data, DeKalb has seen between 4,241 and 4,245 cases. There are between 1,891 and 1,895 cases in Sycamore; 831 and 835 in Sandwich and Plano (listed as one region on the site); 746 and 750 in Genoa; 436 and 440 cases in Cortland; 246 and 250 cases in Hinckley; 231 and 235 in Kirkland; 216 and 220 in Kingston; 176 and 180 cases in Somonauk; 136 and 140 in Waterman; 116 to 120 in Malta and Shabbona; 81 and 85 in Maple Park; 21 and 25 in Clare; 16 and 20 in Earlville; 11 and 15 in Leland and Esmond; and six and 10 in Lee. Marengo and Rochelle each report between one and five cases.

The DeKalb County website only lists residents who live within county lines for a municipality, while the IDPH website lists everyone within a certain ZIP code. Numbers also may vary because of data lags.

The 60115 ZIP code, including DeKalb, had 4,071 cases reported and 72,328 tests administered (a positivity rate of 5.6%); the 60178 ZIP code, including Sycamore, had 1,891 cases and 22,480 tests (8.4%); the 60111 ZIP code, including Clare, reported 24 cases and 259 tests (9.2%); the 60112 ZIP code, including Cortland, had 431 cases and 4,730 tests (9.1%); the 60135 ZIP code, including Genoa, had 738 cases and 6,759 tests (10.9%); the 60145 ZIP code, including Kingston, had 207 cases and 1,858 tests (11.1%); the 60146 ZIP code, including Kirkland, had 250 cases and 2,489 tests (10%); the 60150 ZIP code, including Malta, had 113 cases and 1,544 tests (7.3%); the 60151 ZIP code, including parts of Maple Park in both DeKalb and Kane counties, had 336 cases and 3,541 tests (9.4%); the 60520 ZIP code, including Hinckley, had 241 cases and 2,804 tests (8.5%); the 60548 ZIP code, including Sandwich, had 1,265 cases and 13,427 tests (9.4%); the 60550 ZIP code, including Shabbona, had 128 cases and 1,594 tests (8%); and the 60556 ZIP code, including Waterman, had 130 cases and 1,506 tests (8.6%).

The IDPH reported 1,306,787 people in Illinois have tested positive for COVID-19, while 21,694 people have died statewide. There have been 21,839,226 tests performed to date.

According to testing and recovery data released weekly on Fridays by the county, 8,430 DeKalb County residents have fully recovered as of April 16, and there have been 141,390 tests run on county residents.
