DeKALB – A 19-year-old DeKalb woman was arrested Saturday and charged with unlawfully possessing ecstasy and Xanax with the intent to sell the drugs, police say.
Mya J. Tyler, 19, of the 1000 block of West Lincoln Highway, DeKalb, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver for ecstasy, a Class X felony, and for Xanax, a Class 4 felony. Tyler also was charged with just unlawful possession of both substances, both Class 4 felonies.
If convicted of the Class X felony, Tyler could face up to 30 years in prison.
According to court documents, DeKalb police stopped a vehicle because the driver, Patrick Collier, had a revoked driver’s license. Tyler, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was the registered owner of the vehicle.
“When Collier exited the vehicle, there was a strong odor of cannabis emitting from the vehicle,” according to court documents. “During a search of the vehicle there was suspected [ecstasy] pills located in the glove box and driver door pocket, suspect Xanax pills in a plastic baggie located in the glove box and driver door pocket, and a white bag containing 33 bags of suspect cannabis in unsealed packages.”
Tyler and Collier were taken into custody, according to police. Tyler allegedly told police during an interview she sells ecstasy and Xanax and she does not have a valid prescription for Xanax.
“The suspect [ecstasy] was field tested and field tested positive for the probable presence of [ecstasy],” according to court documents. “There were more than 15 pills but less than 200 pills of MDMA. The suspect Xanax was identified by a Walgreens pharmacist as Xanax.”
On Monday, DeKalb County Chief Judge Robbin Stuckert set a recognizance bond of $15,000 for Tyler, meaning Tyler could be released on her own signature.
Tyler is due back in court for a hearing June 17, according to court records.
