Data: Almost 1 in 4 staffed ICU beds in Illinois occupied by a COVID-19 patient

IDPH announces another 105 COVID-19 deaths in Illinois for Friday-Sunday

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 19,515 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 105 additional deaths for Friday-Sunday. The IDPH does not update its data dashboard on weekends.

For Friday, Saturday and Sunday combined, the state administered 173,251 shots. Illinois also has administered a total of 398,761 doses to 5-11 year olds, an increase of 30,854 doses from Friday’s update. As a state, 23.19% of Illinois children 5-11 years old have received a first vaccine dose, and 12.91% have received two doses.

The state received the results of 494,307 COVID-19 tests for Friday-Sunday. The state’s positivity rate went down to 4.0%.

Illinois has seen 1,904,259 total cases of the virus, and 26,906 people have died. The state has conducted a total of 41,304,940 tests since the start of the pandemic.

As of late Sunday, Illinois had 3,513 COVID-19 patients in the hospital, the most since Jan. 12. Of those, 748 were in intensive care units, also the most since Jan. 12 and 352 were on ventilators, the most since Jan. 20.

The number of COVID-19 patients in the ICU in Illinois has increased 29% over the past week. COVID-19 patients now take up 24.6% of all staffed ICU beds in the state.

Vaccine update: As of Monday, the IDPH reported a total of 20,741,685 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been distributed statewide, with 18,181,157 vaccines administered.

As of Monday, 7,569,721 Illinoisans have been fully vaccinated, or 59.41% of the population. Illinois has a population of 12,741,080 people.

State data shows 2,420,390 booster doses have been administered, an increase of 100,879 doses from Friday’s update.

Regional data from the IDPH remains on a three-day lag.

The North Suburban (McHenry and Lake counties) region’s positivity rate decreased to 6.1%. Currently, 13% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, McHenry County’s seven-day positivity rate average increased to 8.2%. Lake County, which does about two-thirds of the testing in the region, is reporting a rolling average of 5.3%.

Hospitalizations have increased 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is up to a total of 225 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The West Suburban (DuPage and Kane counties) region’s positivity rate decreased to 6.4%. Currently, 16% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity rate decreased to 7.1%, and DuPage County’s decreased to 6.0%.

Hospitalizations have increased 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is up to 334 total COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The South Suburban (Will and Kankakee counties) region’s positivity rate decreased to 8.0%. Currently, 7% of ICU beds are available.

Hospitalizations have increased 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is up to 205 total COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The North (Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties) region’s positivity rate increased to 9.2%.

Currently, 11% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, DeKalb County’s positivity rate fell to 6.8%, Lee County’s rate decreased to 7.6%, and Whiteside County’s went up to 7.0%.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable one out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is up to 250 total COVID-19 hospitalizations.

The North-Central (Bureau, Fulton, Grundy, Henderson, Henry, Kendall, Knox, La Salle, Livingston, Marshall, McDonough, McLean, Mercer, Peoria, Putnam, Rock Island, Stark, Tazewell, Warren and Woodford counties) region’s positivity rate increased to 8.0%.

Within this region, La Salle County’s seven-day positivity rate increased to 6.2%. Currently, 11% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations have increased 10 out of the past 10 days. The region is up to a total of 351 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

Chicago’s positivity rate stayed flat at 3.9%. Currently, 12% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations have increased for 10 out of the past 10 days.

Suburban Cook County’s positivity rate increased to 4.8%. Currently, 11% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations have increased 10 out of the past 10 days in this region.
