Data: More than 1.1 million COVID-19 booster vaccines administered in Illinois

Hospitalizations at highest point since October 18

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2,245 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 22 additional deaths Tuesday.

The state’s seven-day average for new cases dropped to 2,651 new cases per day.

For Monday, the state administered 44,122 shots. Of those, 8,672 doses were in children age 5-11. The state has administered a total of 24,200 COVID-19 vaccines to 5-11 year olds.

The state received the results of 68,679 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Tuesday afternoon. The state’s positivity rate is 2.2%.

Illinois has seen 1,722,590 total cases of the virus, and 26,008 people have died. The state has conducted a total of 36,526,288 tests since the start of the pandemic.

As of late Monday, Illinois had 1,393 COVID-19 patients in the hospital, the most since October 18. Of those, 297 were in intensive care units, and 160 were on ventilators.

Vaccine update: As of Tuesday, the IDPH reported a total of 19,068,895 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been distributed statewide, with 16,046,642 vaccines administered.

As of Tuesday, 7,251,006 Illinoisans have been fully vaccinated, or 56.91% of the population. New state data shows that 7,853,773 of the population of Illinois have had at least one vaccine dose, or 61.64%. Illinois has a population of 12,741,080 people.

Also, new state data shows 1,124,573 booster vaccine doses have been administered.

Among Illinois residents 12 and older:

Fully Vaccinated: 7,713,889 (71.2%)

At Least 1 Dose: 8,398,423 (77.5%)

Among Illinois residents 18 and older:

Fully Vaccinated: 7,165,209 (72.7%)

At Least 1 Dose: 7,793,419 (79.1%)

Among Illinois residents 65 and older:

Fully Vaccinated: 1,767,950 (86.5%)

At Least 1 Dose: 1,913,321 (93.6%)

There can be as much as a 72-hour delay in reporting from health care providers on vaccines administered.

In northern Illinois, here is the percentage of the population fully vaccinated by county:

Chicago: 58.88%

Suburban Cook: 62.54%

Lake: 59.36%

McHenry: 57.72%

DuPage: 66.19%

Kane: 57.53%

Will: 57.67%

Kendall: 59.20%

La Salle: 51.41%

Grundy: 50.28%

DeKalb: 49.76%

Ogle: 49.98%

Regional update: All 11 regions in the state are in Phase 5.

Regional data from the IDPH remains on a three-day lag.

The North Suburban (McHenry and Lake counties) region’s positivity rate increased to 2.9%. Currently, 21% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, McHenry County’s seven-day positivity rate average increased to 3.4%. Lake County, which does about two-thirds of the testing in the region, is reporting a rolling average of 2.7%.

Hospitalizations have decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to a total of 61 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The West Suburban (DuPage and Kane counties) region’s positivity rate increased to 2.8%. Currently, 20% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity rate stayed flat at 2.5%, and DuPage County’s increased to 2.9%.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable seven out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is up to 122 total COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The South Suburban (Will and Kankakee counties) region’s positivity rate increased to 3.8%. Currently, 19% of ICU beds are available.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable three out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is up to 72 total COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The North (Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties) region’s positivity rate increased to 5.5%.

Currently, 16% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, DeKalb County’s positivity rate increased to 4.2%, Lee County’s rate decreased to 2.7%, and Whiteside County’s went down to 2.7%.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is up to 116 total COVID-19 hospitalizations.

The North-Central (Bureau, Fulton, Grundy, Henderson, Henry, Kendall, Knox, La Salle, Livingston, Marshall, McDonough, McLean, Mercer, Peoria, Putnam, Rock Island, Stark, Tazewell, Warren and Woodford counties) region’s positivity rate increased to 3.3%.

Within this region, La Salle County’s seven-day positivity rate increased to 1.8%. Currently, 19% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable for six out of the past 10 days. The region is up to a total of 130 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

Chicago’s positivity rate stayed flat at 2.0%. Currently, 17% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable for four out of the past 10 days.

Suburban Cook County’s positivity rate stayed flat at 2.1%. Currently, 15% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable three out of the past 10 days in this region.
