Bureau County Historical Society has appointed a new Interim Museum Director and Museum Associate.

Kathryn Cartwright, President of the Bureau County Historical Society Board, announced the appointment Lex Poppens as the Interim Museum Director and Mike Hult as Museum Associate.

“Mr. Poppens has nearly 40 years of non-profit management and marketing and will bring that experience to our museums,” said Cartwright. “In addition, Mike Hult has been a long-time volunteer and will be able to support the operations of the Society while we plan our opening and other events for 2022.”

Poppens stated that he looks forward to bringing his experiences to the organization and can’t wait to get started.

“I am delighted to be working with the Bureau County Historical Society,” Poppens said. “We’ve begun the conversation about re-opening the facilities post winter break and will have some exciting opportunities for the community to explore our history.”

The Bureau County Historical Society was founded in 1911 as an extension of the Bureau County Early Settlers Association. The mission of the society is to collect and preserve local history for future generations.

Poppens most recently was instrumental in the honorary renaming of a portion of Fifth Street to Perry Memorial Way.
