Wyanet teen dies after altercation

A 15-year-old Wyanet boy died after an altercation with another student, police said.

Deputies responded to the area of South King Street and East Front Street in Wyanet for a reported altercation between two 15 year-old boys, both from Wyanet, Bureau County Sheriff James Reed said in a news release about 12:46 p.m. Saturday.

A Wyanet ambulance arrived on the scene and transported one of the students to St. Clare Hospital in Princeton. He later was flown by Life Flight to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, where he later died from his injuries Sunday.

Princeton EMS also assisted on the call. The name of the boy, who attends Bureau Valley, has not yet been released pending notification of his family. The incident is under investigation by the Bureau County Sheriff’s Office and Peoria County Coroner’s Office.
