PRINCETON — Bureau County United Way just wrapped up a successful virtual auction fundraiser that raised $5,000 for the 2021 campaign.
That leaves only about $5,000 of the $105,000 goal the organization has left to raise before the campaign ends this spring, and executive director Victoria Yepsen is hoping to do so with an upcoming Cinco de Mayo-themed fundraiser.
“We are so close to hitting goal. Hitting goal is important so that we can continue to fund our incredible agencies,” she said. “The virtual auction was super fun to host with small businesses coming together for a cause. We have done so well considering the year we have had.”
Bureau County United Way has partnered with Spoon’s Restaurant in Princeton for a Cinco de Mayo dinner special to served on May 5.
With a $15 ticket, Spoon’s will be serving a special smothered beef tamale dinner with refried black beans and chips.
The dinner special will be available from 4 to 8 p.m.
Call Spoons at 815-872-9001 to reserve a ticket for carryout or make an indoor dining reservation, availability is limited. Or call Bureau County United Way’s office at 815-875-2631, ext. 1006, email bcuw@local.unitedway.org or get in touch with a BCUW board member to receive carryout tickets.
As the 2021 campaign comes to an end, Yepsen thanks all those who’ve supported BCUW during an unprecedented year.
“People continue to give and support our mission, despite these unprecedented times. The way our agencies service the community is just a testament to that continued support,” she said.
A special “thank you” goes to Chris and Mary Kieffer of Edward Jones and Judith Nelson for their “extremely generous donations.”
“Without them, we wouldn’t be as close as we are to our goal today,” Yepsen said.
