Girls basketball: Kewanee hands Princeton girls first loss

KEWANEE - The Princeton girls battled back in the second half, only to fall to the host Boiler Girls 50-45 Monday night in Kewanee.

The loss was the first in seven games for the Tigresses (6-1, 1-1). Kewanee (3-4, 2-0) won for the third straight time after starting the season 0-4.

The Boiler Girls led from start to finish, leading 11-5 after one quarter, 20-12 at the half and 36-26 at the end of three quarters. The Tigresses outscored the Boiler Girls 33-30 in the second half and 19-14 in the fourth quarter.

PHS junior guard Olivia Gartin scored 17 of her game-high 19 points in the second half. McKenzie Hecht added eight points and Maggie Davis had six.

Emma Crofton led Kewanee with 12 points.

Princeton won the sophomore game 59-54 in overtime.
