The Princeton Tigresses threw their own party at Prouty Gym Saturday, winning the 2021 Princeton Invitational volleyball tournament.
The Tigresses went 4-0, defeating Sherrard (25-23, 25-15), Mendota (25-17, 25-19), Byron (25-17, 25-21) and Reed-Custer (25-19, 25-7).
PHS seniors McKenzie Hecht, Katie Bates and Madison Richards all made the all-tournament team.
Hecht had a day-high 36 kills with Richards adding 24, Maya Gartin 21 and Olivia Gartin 20. Bates dealt an even 100 assists along with 25 points and 18 digs. Libby Boyles served up a team-high 30 points with Taylor Wetsel adding 28 points and five aces and Abby Peterson 45 digs.
Sherrard finished second with Mendota third, Reed-Custer fourth and Byron fifth.
Delaney 52nd at state
St. Bede’s Jake Delaney shot a second day round of 84, settling for a two-day total of 163 to tie for 52nd place in the IHSA Class 1A State boys golf tournament at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington. He shot a 79 on Friday, tying for 33rd place to advance to Saturday’s final round.
PHS sophomores third at Sandwich
The Princeton sophomore volleyball team went 4-1 to place third in Saturday’s Sandwich Tournament.
PHS harriers run at Sterling
The Princeton cross country teams ran in Saturday’s Sterling Invite. The boys finished 15th (432) and the girls finished 13th (342).
Top finishers for the boys team were Christian Yepsen (76th, 18:26), Mack Williams (87th, 19:23) and Gabriel Glass (95th, 20:18).
For the girls, Lexi Bohms was 42nd (20:58), Kiana Brokaw 70th (23:15), Hannah Muehlschlegel (76th, 23:40), Claire Grey (93rd, 26:50) and Hope Crouch (97th, 28:21).
