Three were killed Friday evening in a fatal accident at the intersection of Route 40 and Kentville Rd. in Bureau County. Bureau County Sheriff James Reed stated deputies responded at 6:32 p.m., and upon arrival observed a Mitsubishi Outlander and Lexus with severe damage.
The driver and sole occupant of the Mitsubishi, a 62-year-old man from Putnam, was deceased at the scene.
The Lexus had four occupants. A 39-year-old male driver and 11-year-old female passenger were deceased at the scene. The other two passengers — a 39-year-old woman and 13-year-old boy — were transported to OSF Medical Center in Peoria. All four individuals in that vehicle were from Davenport, Iowa.
Names are being withheld pending the notification of family.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation by an Illinois State Police Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team.
Agencies that responded included the Bureau County Sheriff's Office, Wyanet Police Department, Buda Fire Department, Bradford Fire Department, Stark County EMS, Stark County Sheriff's Office, Illinois State Police, Life Flight and Bureau County Coroner Janice Wamhoff.
