A 26-year-old Crystal Lake native and Florida TV news reporter was killed Saturday in a motorcycle crash.
Waterman Broadcasting employee Jenny Lenzini was riding on the back of a motorcycle on Saturday in North Port, Florida, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree, according to a NBC Channel 2 report.
The driver died at the scene. Lenzini was flown to a Sarasota hospital, where she later died from her injuries, according to NBC 2.
Lenzini started with NBC Channel 2 and ABC Channel 7 in July, according to NBC 2.
"I'm just heartbroken tonight," NBC Channel 2 anchor Lisa Spooner said in a Facebook post Sunday. "A few months ago, I started spending time with Jenny Lenzini. She was a reporter for us. We would go to dinner or chat about ways she could improve in her career. She was even coming over for Thanksgiving. Saturday morning we were at boot camp together. Several hours later, she was gone."
Lenzini was a 2012 graduate of Prairie Ridge High School and went on to receive her bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2016, according to the reporter's LinkedIn.
