La Grange college student dies from COVID-19 complications

Michael Lang was a freshman at the University of Dayton

LA GRANGE - A La Grange resident who attended the University of Dayton died Thursday from complications from COVID-19.

Michael Lang, 18, a first-year student in the university's College of Arts and Sciences died following a lengthy hospitalization, according to a statement from the university.

Lang left campus on Sept. 13 to return home for remote study, university president Eric Spina said in a letter to university students, faculty and staff.

Spina said the university extends its deepest sympathy and prayers to Lang’s family, friends, professors and the campus community.

The university held a vigil in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception on Friday.

“The loss of Michael calls our campus community to honor his memory and support those who are affected by his passing,” the university said in a statement.“We extend our deepest sympathy and prayers to his family, friends, professors and our campus community. Campus ministers, housing and residence life, and counseling staff are always available for you and for those you know who may be deeply affected by this loss.”

Lang was a graduate of the Lyons Township High School.
