Nearly 250 new COVID cases reported in Kane County Saturday

Death of man in his 90s reported

KANE COUNTY – Illinois public health officials on Saturday reported 242 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and one new death, a man in his 90s.

That is an increase from the 173 new cases reported on Friday. The total number of cases in the county is now 16,453. The number of COVID-19 deaths in Kane County is 347.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen eight days of positivity increases and seven days of hospital admission increases. The region's positivity rate decreased slightly from 9.4% to 9.3%, well above the state's threshold of 8%. Currently, 24% of medical/surgical beds are available and 38% of ICU beds.

Within this region, Kane County's seven-day rolling positivity average decreased to 11.7%.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. Additional restrictions can be placed on any of the state's 11 health regions if the region sustains an increase in its average positivity rate for seven days out of a 10-day period.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 6,161 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 63 additional deaths Saturday. Illinois now has seen 370,194 total cases of the virus, and 9,481 people have died.

The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate increased from 5.6% to 6.1%. The state received the results of 83,517 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Saturday afternoon.
