SYCAMORE – Owners Todd and Betsy Hendrey of The Confectionary have decided to close their Sycamore location until the COVID-19 pandemic has ended.

Owner Betsy Hendrey said that it “pains us to make the decision to temporarily close our Sycamore location.”

The Sycamore location, 235 W. State St., was started in 1994, the DeKalb location in 1982.

“We keep reminding ourselves that it’s temporary,” she said. “All families have been affected in one way or another and many businesses are feeling it as well. We are all in the same boat and this community is our home.”

Although the Sycamore location is temporarily closing, the location at 149 N. Second St. in DeKalb will remain open for curbside pickup.

Other changes made during the pandemic at The Confectionary is having workers wear masks and fresh gloves each time they deliver products to a waiting vehicle. Staff each have their own dedicated phone, pen and scissors for every shift.

The store also is adopting a pre-bagged business model so almost every item is grab-and-go.

When the temperature allows, shipping will be enabled on the store’s website. There will be many online shipping options available in the fall, when insulated boxes with ice packs are not required to ship items to prevent melting.

Hendrey said that when the pandemic is over, they plan on re-opening the Sycamore location and that The Confectionary is “here to stay.”

“We aren’t going anywhere, just finding new ways to adapt to meet our customers’ needs,” she said. “Sycamore will be back stronger than ever when the pandemic is over.”
