A man was arrested after he broke into a woman’s car in Bolingbrook by shooting out the passenger window and grabbing her purse and other items, police said.

Another man who was with the alleged gunman was arrested after the incident Monday afternoon when he refused to comply with officers’ commands by telling them, “Shoot me,” and fighting with them after they shocked him with a Taser, Bolingbrook police said.

About 4 p.m. Monday, officers were sent to the 600 block of Ponderosa Drive in response to a report of an armed robbery, police said.

The victim told officers she was driving from Downers Grove when she exited Interstate 55 and noticed a Volkswagen closely following her. The car followed her to Ponderosa Drive.

When she left her car, she was confronted by Sherwan Williams, 23, of Blue Island, who was armed with a handgun and demanded money, police said. Williams searched her but did not find money, police said.

Williams then ran to her locked car, fired a round through the passenger window and grabbed her purse and other property before fleeing in the Volkswagen, police said.

Officers later found the Volkswagen, which was pulled over in the 1300 block of Lily Cache Lane, police said.

Williams was inside of the car with Jaylan Banks, 21, of Wheaton, and two female minors, police said.

With the exception of Banks, the other occupants exited the car and complied with officers’ commands, police said. Banks kept reaching back into the car, police said.

When Banks exited the car, he refused to comply with officers’ commands and walked to them while yelling, putting his hands under his vest and telling them, “You’re going to have to shoot me,” and “Shoot me,” police said.

Police said they shocked Banks with a Taser “with negative results” and he began punching the officers when they grabbed him. Banks was taken to the ground but he continued to fight with them and officers used a Taser again, police said.

After Banks was handcuffed and placed in a squad car, he kicked the officers and was “noncompliant,” police said.

Williams was identified as the robber, police said. During a search of the vehicle, officers found a loaded handgun and the victim’s property, police said.

Williams was arrested on probable cause of armed robbery, reckless discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by felon, while Banks was arrested on probable cause of armed robbery, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, motor vehicle burglary and resisting arrest, police said.
