To the Editor:
Write-in candidate for Will County coroner Zohaib Khan has two words for Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow: Jimmy – I got two words for you, but don’t worry, I’m not going to slap you before I say them like Officer May does. But since those are his words, here’s the proclamation: “Wake up [expletive].”
Eric Lurry’s death was not due to an intentional drug overdose. It was due to insufficient oxygen and lack of air. If a person’s is losing consciousness and their motor skills are impaired, then rescue breathing is supposed to be performed by pinching a person’s nose and providing oxygen.
Officer May pinched Lurry’s nose, but did not provide any oxygen for two minutes, which contributed to Lurry’s death.
The American Heart and Lung Association has prohibited this practice of nose pinching since 2010.
In a life and death situation, every minute and second counts. Officer May had the opportunity to use those two minutes effectively by saving a life, but instead, he used those minutes for slapping, calling names and profanity.
If the mayor, police chief, sheriff and coroner are not going to hold Officer May accountable, then his vocal proclamation elevates from singular to plural level: “Wake up [expletive]s.”
