Will County prosecutors are seeking the forfeiture of a truck that was allegedly used by three men who tried to burglarize a Joliet Walgreens that was the target of looting, court records show.

On June 2, Tyler L. Peters, 20, of Plainfield, Jon W. Hansen, 20, of Shorewood, and Vern C. Sjogreen Jr., 20, of Joliet, were each arrested on charges of attempted burglary and criminal damage to property in connection with the incident at the 1801 Ingalls Ave. Walgreens, court records show.

Prosecutors filed a complaint July 24 that seeks forfeiture of Peters’ 2001 Ford F-150, which they claimed was used to commit the attempted burglary of Walgreens and to “conceal the proceeds from the burglary.”

The forfeiture complaint alleged Peters was "the getaway driver" and that the three men intended to break into the pharmacy at Walgreens “to steal pharmaceutical syrup and sell it for profit.”

Prosecutors said the men devised the plan while smoking marijuana and eating tacos at a Taco Bell restaurant.

After the three men were arrested, Hansen and Sjogreen admitted to police they planned to enter the Walgreens, which was closed after looting from the night before, and Hansen admitted the plan was to steal items for profit, the complaint alleged.

A hearing on the forfeiture will take place Sept. 9.

Peters’ attorney Steve Haney filed a motion last week requesting the return of various items belonging to his client that are still in the Ford, including his driver’s license, wallet, a hammer and wrench, court records show.
