Police asking for help to identify suspects in South Elgin car burglaries

One car was stolen after suspects entered open garage

SOUTH ELGIN – The South Elgin Police Department is asking for the public's help to identify suspects involved with two car burglaries.

According to a news release, a resident in the 700 block of Heartland Lane reported that items had been stolen from his unlocked car on Saturday. The resident reported that he saw the suspects driving a dark colored SUV.

Later that day, video surveillance shows two subjects walking up to the driveway of a home in the 700 block of Reserve Court and enter the open garage. The suspects found the keys in an unlocked car and drove off with that car.

According to the video surveillance, after the stolen car was backed out of the driveway, the second suspect ran toward a waiting dark-colored SUV, which is believed to be the same one from the incident in Heartland Lane.

The stolen vehicle is a 2016 BMW 650.

Police are reminding residents to remove valuables from their cars and to keep them locked with garage doors closed.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the South Elgin Police Department Investigations Section at 847-741-2151 or Tri-Com Central Dispatch at 630-232-4739.
