Ranger police investigators are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect involved in the crime. A female victim reported that a dark-skinned male pushed her off her bicycle and tried to sexually assault her. The woman broke free and the suspect fled the area on the victim’s bike, a black Cannondale Quick 5. Ranger police officers have collected evidence in the case and continue their search for the suspect.

Lake County Forest Preserve Ranger Police are asking anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information about the crime to call 847-968-3404.

While trails are very safe, Lake County Forest Preserve Police advise trail users to take precautions. When using forest preserve trails or any other community trail system, always put personal safety first, carry a cellphone, and bring along a friend or family member to walk or ride with you, when possible. Remain alert and aware of your surroundings at all times. As you arrive at your destination, whether it’s a forest preserve, park or shopping mall, be aware that someone may be watching as you put valuables under your seat or in the glove box. Instead, secure them in your trunk before you arrive or take them with you when you leave your car. Park in a well-lit area visible to pedestrian and vehicular traffic, when possible. Lock your car, close all windows and take your keys with you.

To report an emergency in the preserves, call 911. For nonemergency pubic safety issues, call the Ranger Police Department at 847-968-3404, 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays or call the Lake County Sheriff’s Department dispatch at 847-549-5200 and ask to speak to a ranger.
