McHenry School District 15 plans to use a hybrid model of in-person and remote learning when the 2020-21 school year begins while also giving families an option for full-time remote learning.
The district posted a tentative return to school plan on its website, receiving input from McHenry High School District 156, parents and staff. The plan is tentative and subject to change, District 15 Superintendent Alan Hoffman said.
Students will go to school on an alternating "A" and "B" schedule, with about half of students in school for in-person instruction and about half of students at home for remote learning. The plan states that "students would have two to three days a week of in-person instruction with remote/at-home learning on the alternating days."
The district intends to provide a full-time remote learning option for families.
Students in pre-K, EL and select SPED may follow a different schedule or attend a different number of days.
The plan states that using a hybrid and alternating "A" and "B" schedule will allow for more reasonable spacing of students and better coordination of bus schedules with District 156, reduce the number of students on buses, make the process of daily health screenings and temperature checks more manageable, and result in fewer students eating breakfast or lunch at the same time.
District 15 operates eight elementary schools throughout McHenry, which includes Chauncey H. Duker School, Edgebrook Elementary School, Hilltop Elementary School, Landmark Elementary School, McHenry Middle School, Parkland School, Riverwood Elementary School, Valley View Elementary School.
