John and Joe Florist has closed its fresh flower section for now while the owners wait to hear from the state on the status of Llerrem Illinois’ cannabis craft-growing license for medical marijuana.
Jody Bodznick, who owns the west Streator shop with her husband, Craig, said they will reopen if Llerrem Illinois’ grow application is delayed or doesn’t land them a license.
If the license doesn’t get confirmed or there is a delay, they will reopen to sell Christmas evergreens for cemeteries, with a smaller garden center opening next spring. They do not expect to offer fresh flowers or deliveries at that point.
Llerrem Illinois also applied for cannabis craft growing licenses at what is currently a bus lot in the 600 block of Hickory Street and at a plot of land immediately west of the farthest east railway on 12th Street.
If none of the applications go through, the next round of applications would be up for approval in December 2021.
