JoAnn Wyatt's husband Brett seen flames Saturday at his neighbor's Arthur Street house in Streator and yelled "fire!" to his wife.

Brett called the fire department shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday to report the fully-involved front porch fire at 1202 Arthur St., while his wife alerted the neighborhood.

There were no injuries, as the residents were not home at the time of the fire. The residents' small dog, however, died in the fire from smoke inhalation. Firefighters found the dog in a kennel inside the house. CPR and oxygen was given to the dog via a pet mask.

When firefighters arrived, flames had entered the interior of the house through a window, said Streator Fire Chief Gary Bird.

"We had a quick knock down of the exterior," Bird said.

There was significant damage apparent to the front of the house from fire, smoke and water. The cause of the fire was undetermined but not considered suspicious, according to an investigation by Sterator Fire Department. The remainder of the home was damaged by smoke and water.

Reading Volunteer Fire Department, AMT ambulance and Streator police assisted Streator Fire Department at the scene. Nicor, ComEd, Illinois American Water, V-Com Dispatch, Streator public works and Streator animal control also helped.

Bird said the fire department will release more information after its investigation. Arthur Street was closed to traffic from Hendricks to 12th street while firefighters put out the fire. Several people gathered throughout the neighborhood to watch.
