GENEVA – After more than two long months of shuttered doors, Geneva's John Christian Salon is looking forward to welcoming guests on June 2.
"We're anxious to get back to work to see all of our customers again," owner John Christian said. "It was difficult not working. It was the first time in my whole time in business that I've had two months off. Never has this happened, and it was a bad thing for us to go through."
Luckily, he said, all 10 of his employees were able to collect unemployment assistance during the shutdown.
As mandated by the state, the salon is making some big changes before the first guest walks through the doors.
"We'll all be wearing masks, and I have a big enough salon where everyone works in their own individual space so social distancing won't be a problem," he explained. "And as always, we'll be sanitizing everything between clients. It will be a little different, for sure."
Clients and employees will also have their temperatures taken as they come into the salon.
Christian said the phones have been "ringing off the hook" by clients who want to get in, and the salon is booked up for several weeks.
"I always knew I'd reopen," Christian said. "But we hope this never happens again."
