Bronx man threatened people with knife, stabbed man at Joliet hotel: cops

A knife-wielding Bronx man threatened two people who took him to a Joliet hotel and stabbed another man, police said.

About 12:20 a.m. Friday, officers went to Red Roof Inn, 1750 McDonough St., after receiving a report of a stabbing, according to a Joliet police news release.

After investigating the incident, the police determined that Gerard Jones, 28, of the 200 block of Holland Avenue in New York's the Bronx threatened a 36-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman with a knife, and also stabbed a 32-year-old man while inside Red Roof motel room, police said.

The 36-year-old man and 19-year-old woman had taken Jones and the 32-year-old man to Red Roof Inn after seeing the two men were intoxicated and walking in the area of South Larkin Avenue and McDonough Street, police said.

After Jones threatened the 36-year-old man and 19-year-old woman with a knife, they fled the room, police said. Jones then got into a verbal alteration with the 32-year-old man and stabbed him with the knife, police said.

The 32-year-old man was able to flee the room and another person who was nearby contacted the police.

Officers found Jones inside the room, took him into custody and then transported him to the Joliet Police Department for booking, police said. A knife was recovered from the scene and the 32-year-old man was hospitalized for injuries that were not life threatening, police said.

Jones was taken to the Will County jail and was charged with aggravated battery and aggravated assault, according to court records.
