A Joliet woman tried to pull off a police officer's personal protective equipment and scratched him after he showed up at her home early Saturday morning to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance, according to police.
Officers arrived at the Sugar Maple Drive residence of Loretta Colhardt, 45, shortly after 2 a.m., the Joliet Police Department said in a statement issued Tuesday.
Once at the home on Joliet's far West Side, officers were "able to determine that Colhardt had gotten into an argument with her children," police said.
But as they were "conducting their investigation, Colhardt became highly upset with officers because they were wearing personal protective equipment," according to police.
"Colhardt then battered an officer in the face, attempting to remove the officer’s PPE," police said.
"The officer attempted to take Colhardt into custody, and Colhardt scratched the officer's arm," police said. "After a brief struggle, Colhardt was placed into custody and transported to the Joliet Police Department for booking procedures."
Colhardt was transported from the police department to the Kendall County jail, according to police.
Colhardt appeared in Kendall County court Sunday. records show.
Colhardt was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer and a public defender was assigned to her case, according to court records.
Colhardt's bond was set at $30,000, court records show. She posted bond and was released from custody shortly before 10 p.m. Monday, according to jail records.
