Montgomery-based Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity raised the walls Saturday, May 9, for a duplex at 829-831 Grove Street in Aurora.
Barbara Zegiel, Habitat funds coordinator, said 14 construction tradespeople raised and braced the walls in about 40 minutes. Volunteers from Sosa Inc. Plumbing Heating & Cooling of Aurora and Mom and Sons assisted.
Volunteers included Ezechiel Nibitanga of Aurora, a future Habitat homeowner. His family includes his wife Yorlanda and son Frederick. The family immigrated from Burundi, East Africa.
Zegiel said, “We are thankful for everyone working carefully and efficiently to get the job done and following all personal-protection methods.”
Fox Valley realtor groups sponsoring the project include Coldwell Banker, Yorkville; John Green, Naperville; and Give Back Realty, Aurora. Realtor groups have pledged to raise $125,000 for the duplex. More realtors are invited to join the effort.
Ground was broken March 21 for the Grove Street duplex—Fox Valley Habitat’s 66th since 1988 in Aurora, North Aurora and Montgomery. It is scheduled for completion in March 2021. Occupants of the second half of the duplex will be announced.
Founded in 1988, Fox Valley Habitat is based at Genesis Community Church in Montgomery. Fox Valley Habitat is an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Volunteers and donations are needed to continue the Christian housing ministry.
