Owner of Sunday's Seconds expands on Barber Greene Road in DeKalb

DeKALB – The owner of Sunday's Seconds is expanding in DeKalb, buying the Daily Chronicle building at 1586 Barber Greene Road.

The sale of the building was finalized Thursday, April 30. The building was sold to Seymour Lesorgen, owner of Sundays Seconds.

Sunday's Seconds started 22 years ago and has had three previous locations in DeKalb. Their last location was in Rosita's previous production facility on Dietz Ave. The business has 16 employees.

"The public's support gave us the opportunity to expand," Lesorgen said.

The business buys excess inventory, discontinued goods and customer returns from large stores, such as Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart and Amazon. The items' condition is inspected and then sold to retailers that sell them online via eBay and Amazon.

Sunday's Seconds will use the 15,182-square-foot building for offices and a production area to prepare orders for shipping, not as a retail facility. The empty grass lot across from the building is enough space for a 20,000-square-foot building in the future. The 3.4-acre lot also includes 58 parking spaces.

Changes Lesorgen plans on making to the building include adding LED lighting, new flooring, a warehouse dock and landscaping.

Sunday's Seconds' new location will help keep costs down by providing the company with more efficient space geared toward their specific business needs.

"Although most of my business is out of state, many of my buyers are in New York or Tennessee, many people remember our retail store," Lesorgen said. "I still get calls asking if I have any laptops or TVs or microwaves to sell. I appreciate all the support the public has given us through the years."

The Daily Chronicle has been serving DeKalb County since 1879 and will continue to do so with its local reporting and sales staff into the future.

"We are excited to find an owner who will utilize the full potential of the facility," said Don Bricker, chief operating officer for Shaw Media. "As our business has evolved, the need for large multi-use buildings has diminished, but our commitment to DeKalb County continues."

The Daily Chronicle's distribution center has been relocated to a facility in Sycamore, said Bricker, and a new office space will be located at a later date.

"We are opening a distribution center in Sycamore this week, and will evaluate local office space options once the coronavirus pandemic allows us to return to a more normal operating environment."
