Crystal Lake man faces sex assault charges dating back to 2015

Jonathan Gomes

A 33-year-old Crystal Lake man is accused of having inappropriate contact over a five-year span with an underage girl whom he knew.

Jonathan Gomes was released from the McHenry County Jail Wednesday after posting bond, records show. He’s charged in McHenry County court with three counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child dating back to January 2015. As of Jan. 1, there is no statute of limitations on criminal sexual assault in Illinois.

If Gomes were convicted of the offense, he would face between six and 30 years in prison.

Police learned about the allegations on March 19 when a concerned parent made a report with the Huntley Police Department. Officers learned through their investigation that the alleged assaults took place at a home in the 7400 block of Pingree Road in Crystal Lake. The case was then turned over to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, which discovered that Gomes had abused a minor in his household, according to a news release.

On March 20, a McHenry County Judge granted an emergency order of protection barring Gomes from having any contact with the girl.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at 815-334-4750, McHenry County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-762-STOP (7867) or email the Sheriff’s Office tip line at TipLine@mchenrycountyil.gov.
