Why Marable was selected:

The senior scored 24 points to help the Raiders upset top-ranked Benet Academy in the Class 4A Benet Academy Sectional finals to advance them to this week's supersectional.

Marable talked with Herald-News sportswriter Curt Herron. Below is an edited transcript.

Herron: What did you like about your performance?

Marable: We knew that we had to play hard against the number-one team in the state at the time so we just had to give our best effort and play like it was our last game.

Herron: What do you like most about your team?

Marable: When we started off, we had a little trouble being cohesive but toward the end of the year we picked it up and started to play together as a team. I've played with a couple of the girls before and we've been able to build bonds and know how each other plays.

Herron: What do you feel about competing for Bolingbrook?

Marable: We have a competitive and very talented team and I really like the coaches and how we're sort of like a family. We're able to get along very well and they push us to play at a higher than at other places.

Herron: What do you like the most about basketball?

Marable: I just love to play it. I started off playing soccer but I chose to play basketball just because I love the people and the game and it's made me happy to play it.

Herron: Who's your biggest influence for basketball?

Marable: Both of my parents. My dad, James, was a basketball, football, and wrestling coach for a middle school team so he took me to the gym and do drills and to all of my games. My mom, Sonya, is very passionate and likes to make sure I play my best.

Herron: What's your favorite food?

Marable: I like pizza, wings, mac and cheese, any type of pasta and also sushi.

Herron: What's type of music do you like? And performer?

Marable: I like R & B. I like Summer Walker and H.E.R.

Herron: What do you want to do in your future?

Marable: I want to major in business right now.

Herron: What's your favorite sports team and athletes?

Marable: The Lakers. LeBron and Trae Young.

Herron: What do you like to do in your free time? And in your future?

Marable: Spend time with my family and friends, watch YouTube and catch up on sleep.

Herron: Do you have any pets?

Marable: I have a shih tzu mix named Gizmo.
