A national environmental organization endorsed U.S. Rep. Bill Foster for reelection to Congress.
Foster, D-Naperville, touted his support from the Sierra Club as another major endorsement toward his reelection to represent the 11th Congressional District, according to a news release.
"I promise to continue protecting our environment and fighting back against President Trump’s harmful and anti-science environmental policies," Foster said in the release.
The congressman also cited his standing as the only Ph.D. physicist in Congress and emphasized his support for the 100% Clean Energy Act to get the country to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
The Sierra Club told Foster in a letter it was "pleased to support your campaign in appreciation of your demonstrated commitment to protecting America’s environment," according to the news release.
Foster has also received support from several members of Congress, Will County area elected officials and labor and political organizations, including the AFL-CIO and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund.
Will County Board member Rachel Ventura, D-Joliet, is challenging Foster for the Democratic nomination.
The Illinois primary election is March 17.
