BREAKING: Former Oswego East administrator named principal at OHS

Oswego School District 308 has hired the next principal for Oswego High School.

The Oswego School District 308 Board of Education approved the hiring of Chris Grays as OHS principal effective with the start of the 2020-2021 school year during its meeting Monday, Feb. 10.

Grays will replace current principal Mike Wayne, who is retiring from his role after 14 years, effective June 30. According to documents provided by OSD 308, Grays will receive a base annual salary of $125,000.

Grays is currently employed as an assistant principal at Homewood Flossmoor High School in Flossmoor.

From 2016 through 2019, Grays served as an assistant principal at Oswego East High School. He has also worked as an administrative dean and school counselor at Crete Monee High School, the press release stated.

According to the release, Grays received his bachelor of science degree in business administration from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb; his master of education in school and clinical counseling from Saint Xavier University in Chicago; his education specialist (Ed.S) degree in educational administration from National Louis University in Lisle; and a superintendent certification/endorsement from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX.

Grays and his wife, Jessica, have four children between the ages of 12 and 19. He enjoys spending time with his family and being active.

"I am truly honored and excited to serve the students, families and staff of Oswego High School, along with the surrounding community," Grays said in a statement issued by the district. "I look forward to continuing the rich tradition that has been well established at OHS, while enhancing the experiences of all."

"We look forward to welcoming Mr. Grays back to our district," Superintendent Dr. John Sparlin said. "He serves as an advocate for students, supporting their educational and emotional needs, and is constantly striving to provide equitable opportunities for all.

"We know that he is a strong leader, who believes in continued transformation to advance the educational experience for students, staff and our community."
