Two Genoa-Kingston wrestlers won individual regional titles as the Cogs finished second at the Class 1A Harvard Regional tournament Saturday.
Genoa-Kingston finished with 142 points and Harvard won with 187.5.
Luke Bennett (138 pounds) and Erik Garcia (220) both claimed championships for the Cogs. Advancing to the Class 1A Oregon Sectional for G-K are second-place finishers Jesse Torres (145), and Jose Garcia (285), as well as third-place finisher Joan Moreno (113).
GIRLS BOWLING
Spartans march on: The Spartans took third at the Dixon regional earning a spot next week at the Kaneland Sectional at Mardi Gras Lanes.
Sycamore's Megan Kolberg rolled a 1,411 to edge South Elgin's Karlea Ceasario by 11 pins. Maddie Lathrop added a 1,236 for Sycamore.
The Spartans rolled a 5,663 as a team, with South Elgin (5,930) and Oregon (5,899) ahead of them. Freeport (5,530) got the final qualifying spot, with DeKalb eighth (4,606) and Kaneland seventh (4,696.)
For the Barbs, Makala Rae rolled an 1,102 to earn a spot in the sectional, as did Kaneland's Alexis Vittal (1,101).
BOYS BASKETBALL
Spartans protect home court: Sycamore handed Woodstock North a 58-35 defeat.
Jackson Johnson led the Spartans with 11 points, De'Shaun Harris scored nine, Xavier Gagnepain added eight and Jase Hayes had seven.
Kaneland loses at home: The Knights fell to Hinsdale South 78-48.
Will Cushman scored 10 points and Bryce Ebert added nine.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Royals toss rocks: Hinckley-Big Rock earned its 20th win of the season by defeating Rockford Christian Life 58-16.
Tessa Prellberg scored 27 points and Ashleigh Wackerlin 17. Hinckley-Big Rock is now 20-11.
"Today was our first game since Dec. 9 that we’ve had everyone on the roster suit up and finish the game, but better late than never," Royals coach Doug Brewington "I think we were able to get a feel for each again and regain some chemistry today, hopefully got everyone back on the same page.
IC falls in close game: Brooke Heiman scored 20 points, but the Timberwolves couldn't overcome Morris in a 35-32 loss.
