Algonquin man pleads guilty to delivering cocaine in girlfriend's overdose death

A 59-year-old Algonquin man was sentenced to probation Friday after pleading guilty to delivering the cocaine police said killed his girlfriend.

100 block of Jefferson Street, will serve two years of probation in exchange for his guilty plea to a single count of delivery of a controlled substance. As a condition of the plea deal, prosecutors agreed to dismiss additional and more serious charges, including drug-induced homicide. The Class X felony typically carries a six- to 30-year prison sentence.

Officers with the Algonquin Police Department arrested Galluzzo on Sept. 13 in connection with the death of his then-girlfriend, Barbara Duelfer.

The man initially was accused of delivering cocaine to Duelfer on June 15, as well as possessing more than a gram of cocaine the day officers arrested him.

Galluzzo, who had remained at the McHenry County Jail in Woodstock since his arrest, was released after entering his plea Friday.

In accordance with his sentence, Galluzzo is barred from consuming any drugs, alcohol or marijuana. He also must submit to random drug testing, McHenry County Judge Robert Wilbrandt said.

“You’re being given a chance here, Mr. G,” Wilbrandt said in court Friday. “Don’t blow it, OK?”

Galluzzo responded, “I won’t.”
