DIXON – Robert E Brandenburg, age 91, of Dixon, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2020 at Rock River Hospice and Home. He was born July 7, 1928, in Portland, OR, the son of Henry and Minnie (Carlson) Brandenburg. Bob had worked as a commission man at the Chicago Stock Yards, had been a cattle buyer and then worked for the Illinois Dept. of Agriculture for 13 years prior to his retirement in 1991.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Bob was ordained a Deacon in the Rockford Diocese in 1993 and served St. Patrick Parish in many capacities for many years
Bob was also a member of Dixon Knights of Columbus Council 690. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame Fan.
He was a veteran of the Army during the Korean War, serving from January of 1951 to January of 1953.
Bob married Arlene Maxey July 20, 1953 in Austin, MN. She preceded him in death July 4, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael; great-grandson, Braiden; and brothers, Donald Brandenburg and Vernon Brandenburg.
Bob is survived by 4 sons, John (Robyn) Brandenburg, Moline, IL, Daniel (Julie) Brandenburg, Decaturville, TN, Matthew (Doris) Brandenburg, Alvin, Texas, and Timothy (Cindy) Brandenburg, Blue Grass, Iowa; 2 daughters, Carrol (Stanley) Gooding, Godfrey, IL, and Catherine (Randy) Roux, Dixon; daughter-in-law, Kim Brandenburg, Sea Brook, Texas;18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Bill (Sharon) Brandenburg of Rochester, MN. and sister-in-law, Rita Brandenburg of Austin, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday Feb. 8, 2020 at 12:30 p.m. a St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon, with the Rev. Keith Romke officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon. Visitation will be on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family has selected memorial contributions be made to St. Mary or St. Anne Catholic School in Dixon. Arrangements by the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon.
