Yorkville punter Cole Riebe commits to Toledo as preferred walk-on

Once Cole Riebe got the call, he made a rather quick call.

Riebe, a Yorkville senior and Kendall County Newspapers All-Area kicker/punter, announced on Thursday his commitment to Toledo as a preferred walk-on.

Riebe visited Toledo in the spring of 2018 for Junior Day, and made a gameday visit that fall. But he fell out of touch with the Toledo coaching staff until last week, when he received a call with the preferred walk-on offer.

"Me and my family sat on it and I made my decision a couple days ago that I would go there," Riebe said. "I always liked the campus, and got along with the coaches really well."

Riebe as a senior averaged 37.3 yards on 45 punts, of which 15 were downed inside the 20-yard line. He also was 15-for-18 on field goals with a long of 45 and had 43 touchbacks in 63 kickoffs.

Riebe is recruited as a punter.

"It's a preferred walk-on, but their current punter graduates in December," Riebe said. "Best case scenario, they could put me on full scholarship after that depending on how well I do. I will be second string before then and most likely redshirt unless there's an injury. If I redshirt I can get up to four games."

Riebe also had walk-on offers from Ohio, Western Michigan and Northern Illinois, a partial scholarship offer from Division II Bemidji State and an offer from Indiana Wesleyan.

"I just fell in love with Toledo when I visited; when they offered me I knew that was the place I would go," Riebe said. "I've always felt like I could go Division I. I'm just really excited and can't wait until this summer."

Lemke gets UW-Whitewater roster spot

Oswego senior wide receiver Jack Lemke announced this week that he had received a roster spot from NCAA Division III runner-up Wisconsin-Whitewater. Lemke was offered after a visit Wednesday.

Lemke, a Kendall County All-Area pick, had 52 catches for 818 yards and nine touchdowns as a senior.
