A woman was arrested after she attacked another woman and shouted racial slurs at her outside a banquet hall in Homer Glen, sheriff’s deputies said.
About 11:30 p.m. Saturday, a deputy on duty at DiNolfo’s Banquets of Homer Glen, 14447 W. 159th St., responded to a report of a fight outside the building, Will County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.
The deputy saw a crowd outside the hall, Hoffmeyer said. While he was separating people, he came across Sarah A. Benain, 25, of the 13200 block of West Oakwood Drive, who Hoffmeyer said was screaming racial slurs and punching a 27-year-old black woman.
Benain’s legs were wrapped around the other woman’s body during the attack and she “continued to scream the N-word,” Hoffmeyer said.
The black woman later told deputies that she had no idea why Benain attacked her, Hoffmeyer said. She said when she left the banquet hall with a man, Benain rushed up to her and punched her while screaming racial slurs, Hoffmeyer said.
The deputy called for backup and tried to calm Benain down, she said.
“Benain was out of control. She continually yelled racial slurs at the deputies while they were attempting to get control of the situation,” Hoffmeyer said.
Benain punched a deputy and tried to run away when the deputy tried to grab her to prevent her from getting hit by a car, Hoffmeyer said. Because Benain resisted arrest several times, a deputy used a Taser on her, she said.
Benain’s boyfriend, Lukasz J. Harnik, 25, was also arrested when he tried to intervene with Benain’s arrest, Hoffmeyer said.
Benain was charged with aggravated battery, according to court records.
