Police arrest suspect in Joliet Helzberg Diamonds burglary

Police arrested one of two suspects from Detroit, Michigan, who are accused of stealing more than $2,500 in jewelry from Helzberg Diamonds in Joliet, according to court records.

About 2 p.m. Tuesday, 35-year-old Kareem Henry was arrested and booked into the Will County jail on charges of burglary, theft and conspiracy to commit burglary in connection with the incident, court records show.

At 4:45 p.m. Oct. 9, officers were sent to Helzberg Diamonds at 2712 Plainfield Road in Joliet after receiving a 911 call about a burglary in progress, according to Joliet police.

Two men entered the store, broke into a glass display and took numerous pieces of jewelry before fleeing.

The investigation of the burglary by Joliet police detectives led them to Michigan. They worked with the Michigan State Police to identify suspects.

On Oct. 11, Will County Judge Carmen Goodman signed a warrant for the arrest of Christopher E. Sampson, an Amazon employee who is still at large, according to court records.

Sampson was charged with burglary and theft.

Will County Judge Fred Harvey signed the warrant for Henry’s arrest Dec. 12.

During the investigation, more than $2,500 worth of stolen jewelry was recovered, according to police.

Henry is being held at the jail on a $250,000 bond. He must post $25,000 for his release. His next court date is scheduled for Jan. 9.
