Beep beep! Coyote hit by car gets embedded in bumper

STERLING — This one must have a little Wile E. Coyote DNA.

The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department Monday helped rescue a coyote wedged into the bumper of the car that hit it.

“In my 20 years of service, I have never seen anything like this.” Whiteside County Sgt. Mike Bauer said.

Around 5:20 p.m., deputies responded to a call in the Sterling area that a car had struck an animal, then discovered said animal was stuck in the bumper.

Whiteside County Animal Control was called, and the coyote was dislodged and taken to Hoo Haven Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center in Durand for treatment. Happy Tails Humane Society Administrator Donald Czyzyk helped pry the animal loose.

Road runners, beware: The coyote was relocated and released, according to the sheriff’s department.
