Farnsworth House to host Mod & Merry cocktail parties

For the second annual Mod & Merry celebration at Farnsworth House, take part in a festive evening in the country.

This year’s designer, Craig Bergmann Landscape Design, will be decorating with inspiration from the house’s rich natural surroundings. You’ll see the outside and feel it inside. On Dec. 6 and 7, gather friends and family to support the Farnsworth House while sipping craft beverages, munching hors d’oeuvres and listening to the holiday musical stylings of the Mary Hunt Duo. Tickets are limited and may be bought by visiting Farnsworth House, 14520 River Road, Plano.

From Dec. 7 to 14, tour the decorated house during the day. The House may be rented for private gathering while in full holiday regalia the same week.

Sample Tangled Roots brews, Virtue Cider and wines of Fox Valley Winery. This event is made possible with additional support from Troscan Design and Furnishings of Chicago.

“There is a responsibility to do what’s right for any seasonal decor placed at the iconic Farnsworth House site. The juxtaposition of the dynamic natural site and the clarity of Mies van der Rohe’s architecture as inspiration are being celebrated. Light and texture blur the lines between the inside and out, daytime and twilight,” said Craig Bergmann, owner of Craig Bergmann Landscape Design.

Winter tours of Farnsworth House will be at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesdays and Saturdays, Jan. 5 through March 30. Opening day is March 31, when the full tour schedule will resume, with refreshments and a gift for tour ticket holders.

Designed by Mies in 1945 and constructed in 1951, the Farnsworth House is a vital part of American iconography,

Mies constructed this glass box residence of “almost nothing” for Dr. Edith Farnsworth as a country retreat along the Fox River in Plano. It continued to be a private residence for more than 50 years until Landmarks Illinois and the National Trust for Historic Preservation purchased it in 2003.
