WALNUT – Robert I. Durham, 90 of Walnut died Monday, October 28, 2019 at his home.
He was born on July 11, 1929, near Walnut, the son of Melvin N. and Blanche I. (Fordham) Durham. He married Maizie L. Yonk on February 28, 1948, in Walnut. She died October 10, 2013.
He had farmed for many years and later became a real estate agent having owned Durham Realty. He was a member of Walnut United Methodist Church; a past member of the Walnut Chamber of Commerce; and was involved for many years with the Midwest Livestock Expo and in charge of judging events. He liked to garden and attended fairs and the national swine shows. He was an avid golfer, having organized for many years the Southern Senior Golfing group. Spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s school and sports events was important to him and put a smile on his face.
Survivors include his daughter, Sandra L. Morgan of Sterling; his son, Robert A. (Susan) Durham of Rock Falls; his sister-in-law, Melva Gibson of Walnut; his six grandchildren, Darius Morgan, Tarra (Matt) Deppen, Melissa (Shane) Rippy, Joni (Danny) Fuller, Cari (Jeremiah) Johnson and Robert M. Durham; eight great-grandchildren, Logan Rippy, Emma Deppen, Cade Rippy, Bryce Campos, Brenley Johnson, Jeremiah Johnson II, Isaac Fuller and Daniel Fuller.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Charles Thomas Durham.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut.
