WHY HE WAS SELECTED:
Willowbrook senior wide receiver/defensive back Deandre Holliday had five catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns, 37 rushing yards, an interception and three tackles in a 35-0 win over Hinsdale South.
Holliday talked about his big game, the season and more with Suburban Life sports editor Joshua Welge. Here is an edited version of the transcript.
Welge: How big of a win was it for you guys? It seemed like they'd be your toughest game in conference.
Holliday: It's a great win, especially for the team, getting a conference win like that, it benefits us. They're a nice rival for us, so it's nice to go out and beat them like that.
Welge: What happened on your touchdown catches?
Holliday: The first touchdown, gave us nice momentum for the game. Sam [Tumilty] hit me on a nice back route, it was a well-executed play. My second touchdown, it was third-and-long, it was a great ball, I made a play on the ball. The whole game we just executed well. It was probably our most well-rounded game of the season. It's nice for it to be happening right now.
Welge: How has the season come along? You had a tough schedule in nonconference, but you've won five in a row now.
Holliday: Everything is just clicking on offense and defense. We're not perfect, we still have some things that we need to work on to make us better, but I feel like right now we're in a great position.
Welge: What do you feel is your best position?
Holliday: I say receiver, getting the ball. Defense is always fun, although I'm not a big hitter, but all of that is fun, even kicking is fun, gets me reps on the field. But I'd say receiver, making big catches over guys.
Welge: How can this team get back to where you've been the last few years with a deep playoff run?
Holliday: I think we're good right now, we just need to be better. We're just fine-tuning things right now. I feel like we'll be unstoppable by the end of the regular season.
