Sycamore dealt Plano an 8-0 defeat in the first round of the Interstate 8 Conference boys soccer tournament on Tuesday.
Scoring the Spartans were Jules Breidenbach and Austin Bunge each contributed two goals for the Spartans. Isaac Plagakis, Mason McGhee, Tom Kruis and Koby Fowler each scored a goal.
Kaneland moves on: The Knights put away La Salle-Peru 12-0 in the Interstate 8 opener.
Cogs smash Rockford Lutheran: Junior Leon and Eagan Reams each recorded a hat trick as Genoa-Kingston raced to an 11-2 win over Rockford Lutheran.
Reams added three assists in the win. Juan Campos and Reams each assisted on three goals for the Cogs. Also scoring a goal each for G-K was Ben Younger, Kalvin Zimmerman, Jack Bouque, Ben Younker, Rene Vasquez and Franco Raimondi.
Aiden Tomlinson, Sergio Acosta, Bouque and Angel Tapia each added an assist.
The Cogs are now 11-6 overall and 4-3 in the Big Northern Conference.
GIRLS GOLF
Spartans place two on all-conference team: Lauren Cohn shot an 85 to take third and Gwyn Golembiewski carded an 87 to finish fifth at the Interstate 8 Conference Tournament at Fairways Golf Course in Rochelle.
Earning all-conference for Kaneland were Katherine Marshall, who carded a 93 to take eighth and Julia Skiba, who posted a 98 to take 11th and Emily Schultz, whose 105 helped her to 15th place.
VOLLEYBALL
Easy win for IC: Indian Creek dispatched Leland 25-17, 25-11.
Trysta Foster recorded eight kills and five digs. Emily Astling posted five kills and two block assists. Jodie Penman had four assists and two aces. Audrey Hulthen totaled four assists. Audrey Witte had an ace and three digs.
The Timberwolves are now 9-16-1 and 4-2 in the Little Ten Conference.
Spartans clip Morris: Sycamore grabbed a two-set win over Morris, 25-21, 27-25.
Barbs drop first DVC home match: DeKalb fell to Waubonsie Valley 25-19, 25-11.
Knights lose for first time in I8: La Salle-Peru knocked off the Knights 25-11, 25-18.
Grace Franz had 10 kills for the Knights.
"We're a very talented team, but we're a team that turns it on and off when we want to," Kaneland coach Cindy Violett said. "I think that's maturity. We have a lot of young players. We only have three seniors who play. We have to get out of that hole and realize we have to work hard every day, and that includes practice."
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Cogs fourth at meet: Genoa-Kingston's 85 points left it behind three other teams, with Rock Falls finishing with 18 points to win the Matt Walter Invite at Walcamp.
Indian Creek's Jolee Larson took third individually in a time of 19:50. Joely Overstreet took fourth in a time of 20:16. Katelyn Jerbi of Genoa-Kingston took 12th while the Timberwolves' Caroline Bend took 17th and Jill Shotsberger was 18th.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Cogs seventh at Walcamp: Genoa-Kingston's 176 points left the squad seventh at its home meet, with Hampshire winning the meet with 40 points.
Ryan Wade took 14th in a time of 17:46.
BOYS GOLF
IC falls to IMSA: The Timberwolves lost, 180-199, at Hughes Creek.
R.J. McCoy was the medalist, shooting a 42 for Indian Creek.
GIRLS SWIMMING
DeKalb-Sycamore wins home opener: The Barbs beat Elgin, 88-67.
Grace Flemming and Julia Rasmussen each won a pair of races for the Barbs – Flemming the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.64) and 100 backstroke (1:06.45), Rasmussen the 100 free (59.20) and the 100 breaststroke (1:14.24).
