Geneva Golf Club to host Fortnightly Assemblies teaching social graces

Ballroom dance classes part of program enjoying long tradition for youth

GENEVA – The Fortnightly Assemblies etiquette and ballroom dance classes for middle school youth across the area will begin Oct. 21 at the Geneva Golf Club.

The program is directed by Patricia Ray, who invites young ladies and gentlemen in grades six through nine to participate in the six-week program, a news release stated. Classes meet Monday evenings through Nov. 18 at the club at 831 South St.

The students will learn poise and good posture, how to make introductions, telephone manners, greetings, communication skills, and social graces including table manners, appropriate dinner table conversations, table settings, how to write a thank you note and the importance of making a positive first impression.

Ballroom dance instruction will cover the basics of the most popular dances – fox trot, waltz and swing. At the conclusion of the course, students will dine at an area restaurant where they can practice their newly acquired dining skills.

The long-running class is designed to help students build self-confidence along with learning social skills.

Tuition is $115, which includes all classes and the dinner. Classes will meet from 6:45 to 8 p.m., with advance registration requested by Oct. 18. For more information or to register, call Patricia Ray at 630-553-5311.

She has been teaching etiquette classes for children and teens for many years, as well as ballroom dance classes at the junior high and high school level. Ray teaches dance on a regular basis to adults at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove and the Geneva Park District.
