Joliet man arrested on firearm possession, obstruction charge

Judge orders man to obey household rules if released from Will County jail

A Joliet man was arrested on charges of possession of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and obstruction of justice, according to records.

A Will County judge ordered Sebastian Giovanni Arias, 19, of the 200 block of McRoberts Street, to obey all household rules and have a set curfew of 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. unless accompanied by a parent, if he is released from jail, according to court records.

About midnight Sept. 23, Arias was arrested and taken to the Will County jail on charges of possession of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and obstruction of justice.

Arias remains in jail on a $100,000 bond as of Monday afternoon. He will need to post $10,000 in order to be released.

Joliet police arrested Arias near South Center and Pleasant streets.

At Arias’ court appearance Sept. 24, he was assigned a Will County assistant public defender. A judge found probable cause to keep Arias detained, court records show.

The judge ordered Arias to surrender any firearms and ammunition to the Joliet Police Department within 24 hours of his release from jail.

The most serious charge Arias faces is possession of a firearm, a Class 2 felony that is punishable by three to seven years in prison and a fine of up to $25,000.

Arias is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 16 for a preliminary hearing.
