Local roundup: Oregon gets win over Lions

Sterling, Dixon soccer both win; Rocket golfers top Trojans

The Oregon soccer team beat Rockford Christian 5-2 on Tuesday at Oregon Park West to improve to 4-2 in Big Northern play.

Josh Sitze had two goals and an assist. Kashon Reed had two goals. Eli Rufer scored and assisted on a goal. Alvero Soler and Joey Gelander also assisted on goals.

Dixon 7, Byron 0: The Dukes rolled to a Big Northern win at home as Kade Fulton led the way with two goals and three assists.

Bradyn Langloss scored a pair of goals, and Alex Georgiev, James Duet and Jameson Jeffery also added goals. Graesen Blumhoff, Ryan Pitzer, Tristen Smith and Bleon Azemi all dished assists for Dixon.

Sterling 8, Riverdale 0: Lucas Sotelo had a hat trick and John Cid had three assists as the Golden Warriors blanked the Rams at Roscoe Eades Stadium.

Also for Sterling, Adrian Herrera had two goals, and Cid, Jacob Cervantes and Nathan Sanchez added one goal apiece.

Boys golf

Rock Falls 165, Mendota 179: Grant Wasson carded a 3-over-par 38 to lead the Rock Falls Rockets against Mendota at Mendota Golf Club.

Brayden Schulz (41), Kody Velazquez (43) and Jalen Bickett (43) had the other counting scores for the Rockets.

Winnebago 177, Dixon 222: Grant Jacobs was low for the Dukes with a 50 at Lost Nation Golf Club.

The Indians’ Marcus Smith was medalist with a 4-over-par 39.

Rockford Christian 171, Oregon 204: Jarrett Dietrich led the Hawks with a 44 in a match against the Royal Lions at Silver Ridge Golf Course.

Rockford Christian’s Owen Hultman was medalist with a 2-over-par 38.

Riverdale 167, Newman 174, Rockridge 187: Cody Britt had 42, and Blake Wolfe and Kyle Wolfe added 43s for the Comets in a triangular at Emerald Hill.

Riverdale’s James Moorhusen was medalist with a 3-over-par 39.

Girls golf

Dixon 179, Winnebago 188: Bella Heintzelman’s 4-over-par 40 led the Duchesses past the Indians at Lost Nation Golf Course.

Nina Baratta (44), Charlotte McCoy (45) and Olivia Rick (50) had the other counting scores for Dixon.

Oregon 216, Rockford Christian 217: The Hawks edged the Royal Lions at Silver Ridge in Oregon.

Cassy Nyderek led Oregon with a 52, and Ava Hackman added a 53.

Rockford Christian’s Emily Kneller was medalist with a 5-over-par 41.

St. Bede 209, Erie-Prophetstown 223: Berkley Eggers led the Panthers with a 51 in the Panthers’ match against the Bruins at Spring Creek Golf Course.

Girls tennis

Princeton 4, Dixon 1: Riley Bally blanked Sophia Rucinski 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles for the Comets in a loss to the Tigresses in Princeton.

Moline 8, Sterling 1: Abby Airken and Sarah Kirchhoff won at No. 1 doubles in the Warriors road loss to the Maroons.

College tennis

College of Lake County 5, Sauk Valley 4: Maddy Jacobs earns wins in singles and doubles play, but the Skyhawks fell to the College of Lake County in a dual which began on campus before being moved to the Emma Hubbs Courts in Dixon to take advantage of the lights.

Jacobs beat Carly Burgeson 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. She and Sonia Chino beat Gabby Palm and Alex Gregory 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1 doubles. Alyssa Marquez grabbed a 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 10-7 win at No. 6 singles over Grace Marino. Chloe Klein and Adela Bajramoska also took a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.

The Skyhawks are 3-2.
