High school sports roundup for Tuesday, Sept. 24

Prairie Ridge's Michael Thompson delivered the game-winning goal off a cross from Tyus Whitfield in overtime Tuesday to lift the Wolves to a 3-2 Fox Valley Conference victory over host Crystal Lake Central.

Luke Wolf scored on a penalty kick for the Wolves (5-5, 1-2 FVC), and Whitfield also recorded a goal. Thompson added an assist, and Owen Erickson made five saves.

Crystal Lake South 3, Cary-Grove 1: At Crystal Lake, Alex Canfield scored twice and provided an assist to lead the Gators to the FVC win.

Colton Weidner also scored for South (8-3-2, 2-0), Michal Dejworek had an assist, and Carson Hill made two saves.

Huntley 5, McHenry 0: At McHenry, the Red Raiders scored five times in the second half to pull away in FVC action.

Josh Guyer scored twice, while Bryce Dalton, Anthony Reyes and Thomas Rodriguez also scored for Huntley (6-5-1, 1-1). Austin Killen and Gabriel Majocha each had two assists, and Ethan Kornas made one save in the shutout.

McHenry fell to 5-5-3 overall and 0-3 in the FVC.

Dundee-Crown 1, Burlington Central 0: At Carpentersville, Thomas Sarmiento scored in the 70th minute to lift the Chargers (8-3, 3-0) over the Rockets (3-5, 0-3) in their FVC game.

D-C kept pace with Jacobs atop the FVC standings with the win.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Crystal Lake South 2, Jacobs 1: At Crystal Lake, Samantha Wesoly had 12 kills, and Jenna Rhoades had 25 assists to lead the Gators (5-4, 5-4) past the Golden Eagles 25-22, 23-25, 25-21 in their FVC match.

Kelly Carlson had 12 digs, and McKenzie Wilson had 11 digs for South.

Maggie Wallenberger led Jacobs (6-7, 3-6) with 14 kills, and Ireland Van Stone had 10 kills and 15 digs. Rachel Kaczorowski had 28 assists.

Crystal Lake Central 2, McHenry 0: At McHenry, McKenna Timmerman had five kills and 11 digs as the Tigers (18-1, 8-1) defeated the Warriors (9-6, 3-6), 25-19, 25-19, in their FVC match.

Madeline Timmerman, Camryn Hausler and Maddy McCormick each had five kills for Central. Grace Levin had 23 assists, three aces and eight digs. Madeline Timmerman also had six blocks.

Cary-Grove 2, Prairie Ridge 0: At Cary, Evynn Layshock had six kills as the Trojans (12-4, 7-2) defeated the Wolves (9-7, 6-3) 25-19, 25-20 in their FVC match.

Mia Soltis had nine digs, and Lauren Passaglia had eight assists and three aces.

Trinity Sheridan led Prairie Ridge with six kills. Hannah Baudin had 16 assists and six digs, and Olivia Jost had nine digs.

Schaumburg Christian 2, Alden-Hebron 1: At Hebron, Karly Strand had 15 assists as the Giants (3-9, 3-5) lost to the Conquerors in their Northeastern Athletic Conference match, 23-25, 25-22, 25-13.

Anna Webber had five kills and five digs for A-H. Kendra Cashmore had four kills, while Abby Wanderer and Korhyn Geary each had three kills.

St. Viator 2, Marian Central 1: At Woodstock, Gretchen Graff had 28 assists, and Grace Holian had eight kills and eight digs as the Hurricanes (3-12, 0-3) lost to the Lions in their East Suburban Catholic Conference match, 26-24, 17-25, 26-24.

Gabby Davis had eight kills and two aces, Valle Leggett had 11 digs, four kills and two aces and Grace Kramer had five kills for the Hurricanes.

GIRLS TENNIS

Crystal Lake Central 4, Huntley 3: At Crystal Lake, the Tigers won three of four doubles matches to pull out the FVC victory.

Haley Steinberg and Haley Benard (No. 2 doubles), Caroline Dayon and Lauren Fier (No. 3 doubles) and Rachel Passapera and Ellyse Cruz (No. 4 doubles) all won for Central (11-4, 1-3). Silvia Teruel also won at No. 3 singles.

For Huntley, Ruhi Gulati and Elaina Hibbeler won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Kylie Phommasack and Michelle Barnvos teamed up at No. 1 doubles to earn a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win.

Crystal Lake South 7, Dundee-Crown 0: At Crystal Lake, the Gators won their FVC dual with singles wins by Sarah Schuetzle (No. 1), Lizzy Sudbrook (No. 2) and Morgan Lowery (No. 3).

Hannah Schuetzle and Anna Chang (No. 1), Katie Rokusek and Jaden Appelhans (No. 2), Abby Enck and Christina Lin (No. 3) and Dhruvi Mehta and Marissa Baietto (No. 4) won in doubles.

Jacobs 6, Prairie Ridge 1: At Crystal Lake, the Golden Eagles swept all three singles matches to earn the FVC victory.

Chloe Siegfort (No. 1), Kaya Trumbo (No. 2) and Tania Vesselinova (No. 3) won in singles. Lindsay Cunningham and Isha Desai (No. 1), Lindsey Taylor and Lara Santa Ines (No. 2) and Lissie Kontos and Anya Wieczorek (No. 4) had doubles wins.

For Prairie Ridge, Kourtnie Eschman and Lillian Manley earned a win at No. 3 doubles.

Cary-Grove 7, McHenry 0: At Cary, Kaitlin Warner (No. 1), Jazzy Flashing (No. 2) and Sara Greenwald (No. 3) won at singles for the Trojans as they swept their FVC dual meet against the Warriors.

Alina Krembuszewski and Karina Los (No. 1), Jenna Briggs and Olivia Schladt (No. 2), Kate Larry and Grace O’Malley (No. 3) and Chloe Sorensen and Mary Greenwald (No. 4) won at doubles for C-G.

Hampshire 7, Woodstock 0: At Hampshire, Kaylee Patthana (No. 1), Clare Hahn (No. 2) and Olivia Adams (No. 3) won at singles as the Whip-Purs swept the Blue Streaks in their nonconference meet.

Paloma Hamilton and Anika Patel (No. 1), May Kimura and Karolina Ryzka (No. 2), Ally Anderson and Sophia Geraci (No. 3) and Juliana Ernst and Alessandra Valladares (No. 4) won at doubles for the Whips.

Woodstock North 5, Grant 2: At Fox Lake, the Thunder extended a school-record winning streak to 16 consecutive dual matches by beating the Bulldogs.

Aly Cullotta (No. 1), Sophia Ferru (No. 2) and Anika Treadway (No. 3) won at singles for North. Kristen Morey and Juliana Conrad (No. 1) and Lydia Dunker and Alejandra Galindo (No. 2) won at doubles.

BOYS GOLF

Crystal Lake South 157, Prairie Ridge 170: At Chalet Hills in Oakwood Hills, South's Will Stewart was the FVC dual's medalist with a 34.

Josh Lishchynsky shot 38, Ricky Falbo had a 40, and Spencer Shireman carded a 45.

Levi Wagner's 41 led Prairie Ridge. Grant Klepitsch followed with a 42, Connor Hamilton shot 43, and Eddie Winkelmann turned in a 44.

Crystal Lake Central 168, Jacobs 169: At Randall Oaks in West Dundee, Eric Klutke fired a 37 to earn medalist honors in the FVC dual win for the Tigers.

Bayden Hubacher shot 42, Ethan Bass had a 44, and Nick Gawart shot 45.

Burlington Central 166, Cary-Grove 168: At Foxford Hills in Cary, the Trojans dropped a close FVC dual to the Rockets.

Michael Greenhill and Trevor Beaugureau each shot 39 for C-G, Cole Seeger had a 44, and Dylan Turner shot 46.

Harvard 204, Johnsburg 229: At Abbey Springs in Fontana-on-Geneva Lake, Wisconsin, the Hornets won the KRC dual behind James Crout's 47.

Jake Chupich followed closely with 48, Hunter Gratz had a 54, and Javan Rodgers shot 55.

Tyler Malueg's 54 led Johnsburg, and Mike Link shot 55.

Huntley 171, Dundee-Crown 171: At Bonnie Dundee in Carpentersville, Huntley won the FVC dual on a sixth-score tiebreaker, Trevor Wolinski's 47.

Matt McQuillen's 38 topped Huntley, Aidan Svec shot 41, and Jason Huber and Kyler Huber each shot 46.

McHenry 168, Hampshire 204: At McHenry Country Club, Truman Keppy and Mason McCormick each shot 40 to lead the Warriors to an FVC victory over the Whip-Purs.

Liam Nielsen shot 43, and Ryan Peters added a 45 for McHenry.

Josh Good's 41 led D-C. Trevor Book carded a 42, Danny Sheedy shot 43, and Evan Bendis had a 45.

GIRLS GOLF

Huntley 167, Hampshire 199: At Pinecrest in Huntley, the Red Raiders' Katie Matustik shot 39 to tie for medalist on the par-36 back nine as they won their FVC dual.

The Whip-Purs’ Gianna Farinelli tied Matustik for medalist.

The other counting scores for Huntley (6-1) were Molly Baker (41), Taylor Stephenson (43) and Nina Schaffer (44).

Delaney Marcuccilli had a 50 for Hampshire, while Alexis Konejeski shot 54 and Julia Bachta had a 56.

Richmond-Burton 219, Grayslake North 223: At Nippersink in Genoa City, Wisconsin, Alaina Robinson shot 52 to lead the Rockets to a nonconference victory.

Darci Retherford and Makenna Donohoe shots 55s, and Sierra Simicek shot 57.

Harvard 190, Johnsburg 207: At Abbey Spring in Fontana-on-Geneva Lake, Wisconsin, the Hornets' Julia Chupich shot a team-best 44 in a KRC victory.

Joelle McMillan (46), Jennah Brookner (47) and Emma Ackland (53) recorded Harvard’s other top scores.

Ellie Johnson’s 5-over-par 41 for Johnsburg led all golfers. Taylor Blake (55), Savannah Prouty (5) and Gracie Berthoud (56) all scored for the Skyhawks.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Crystal Lake South double dual: At Lippold Park in Crystal Lake, South's Alex Picchi, Topher Davis, Matt Brown and Garrett Czajkowski took four of the top five spots as the Gators won two dual meets.

South defeated Hampshire, 21-39, and Dundee-Crown, 15-40. Hampshire beat D-C, 17-43.

Hampshire’s Aidan Gonzalez broke up the South string of runners, taking third place.

McHenry triple dual: At McHenry Township Park, Huntley's Ian Geisler won by 53 seconds, but the host Warriors came away with three dual victories in the FVC race.

Giesler finished in 16:20, and Crystal Lake Central’s Austin May was second in 17:13.

McHenry was led by Carlos Montes in third. The Warriors also placed Ian Knebl, Enrique Robles, Caleb Schopen and Jackson Albanese in the top nine. Huntley’s Jimmy Ozzauto was fourth.

McHenry beat Huntley, Crystal Lake Central and Burlington Central in their dual races.

Harvard 22, Richmond-Burton 38: At Richardson Adventure Farn in Spring Grove, Ethan Luedke took first for the Rockets, but the Hornets grabbed the next four spots and won the KRC dual meet.

Steven Austin, JJ Lich, Jacob Pedersen and Zach Isonhart finished second through fifth for the Hornets.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Crystal Lake South double dual: At Lippold Park in Crystal Lake, South's Mackenzie Aldridge and Bella Gonzalez practically crossed the finish line together as six Gators finished before anyone else in their FVC duals.

South beat Dundee-Crown, 15-50, and beat Hampshire, 15-49. D-C beat Hampshire, 26-30.

The Gators’ Addie Frisch, Emma Murphy, Elise Gorman and Chelsea Greene took the next four spots.

McHenry triple dual: At McHenry Township Park, Huntley's Bailey Wilk ran 19:40 to win the race and lead the Red Raiders to dual victories over McHenry, Crystal Lake Central and Burlington Central.

McHenry’s Lydia Zancho was second, and Crystal Lake Central’s Kylie Smith was third. Huntley put its top five runners in the top 10.

Richmond-Burton 15, Harvard 46: At Richardson Adventure Farn in Spring Grove, the Rockets took the top five spots with Amanda Allport, Victoria Rockwell, Catherine Miller, Lilly Alberts and Jane Wisniewski in their KRC dual meet.
