Global Brew Tap House plans to reopen in October with new owners

St. Charles establishment plans to add food next year

ST. CHARLES – Global Brew Tap House is set to reopen in mid-October with new owners.

At the Sept. 16 meeting of the St. Charles City Council's Government Operations Committee, the majority of aldermen recommended approving a liquor license and 1 a.m. late night permit for the new owners of Global Brew Tap House, located at 2100 Prairie St. That location has been acquired by the franchise group that owns the Global Brew Tap House in Schaumburg.

The full City Council will review the application at its Oct. 7 meeting. Elgin resident Bhavik Thakkar is purchasing the location with his two business partners.

The St. Charles location originally opened in 2016. According to a memo from St. Charles Police Chief James Keegan, Thakkar is a banker by trade and first learned about the location when he processed a business loan for the location's original owner.

"Because of this, he feels a connection to the St. Charles location, which led him to purchase [the] store," Keegan said.

Plans are to install a full kitchen at the location and start serving a full menu in 2020, he said. According to its website, Global Brew Tap House sells 50 beers on tap and about 200 bottled craft beers from the United States and other countries like Germany, Belgium, England and Austria.

Global Brew Tap House also has locations in Edwardsville and O'Fallon in southern Illinois, Rock Hill, Missouri and West Des Moines, Iowa.
