We Care of Grundy County ready to take over Dollinger Farm

We Care of Grundy County is set to hold its annual fundraiser, We Care At The Farm, from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

We Care Director Eric Fisher said 2019 marks the seventh year they’ve held the event and the second at Dollinger Family Farm. He said the organization moved the fundraiser because they had a good problem – the event was getting too large.

“For five years we were at Tom Tesdal’s farm and had a great time, but we started to get more and more people and activities and knew it was time to look for a larger venue,” Fisher said. “Dollinger’s Farm is the perfect venue for kids and families.”

Tickets to the four-hour afternoon will be $10 per adult and $5 per child with children younger than age two getting in for free.

Activities will include old-time carnival games, an Egyptian treasure hunt, a flight simulator, a magician and a reptile show. Fisher said visitors will not have to pay additional costs other than food vendors, which will include Pizza 4 U.

“As a kid I’d go to arcades or the carnival and it was always a bummer that you needed to pay again and again to play different games. It’s nice that families here can just pay once and then enjoy everything we have to offer,” Fisher said.

The pet-friendly annual celebration is the largest one-day fundraiser for We Care of Grundy County.

Fisher said that the nonprofit raised a little more than $13,000 from last year’s event, and entertained more than 400 guests. He said he hopes there will be even more people this time around.

We Care of Grundy County will also be hosting ACE’s Parenting Program at their facility in Morris beginning from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 18.

The free class for parents will examine adverse childhood experiences and provide strategies for instilling resilience and encouraging growth in children who have gone through high-stress circumstances.

Free child care and meals will be provided.

Adults without children are welcome to attend as well.

We Care provides support to Grundy County residents in need or crisis, including educational programs and holiday assistance.
