PRINCETON – James “Moose” Brackemeyer, 65, of Princeton passed away on Friday, July 12, 2019, at his home of cardiac arrest.
Jim was born in Morrison, the son of Raymond Brackemeyer and Dorothy (Moorman) Brackemeyer, RN. He attended Morrison grade schools and graduated from Newman Catholic High School. He enjoyed his career as an over-the-road truck driver. Jim was employed by Harper-Wyman Co. of Princeton. At the time of his retirement, he was employed by J.B. Hunt lntermodal Division. He received many safety and service awards, including the Million Mile Driver award.
Jim enjoyed music of any kind and NASCAR racing, his favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was a loving mentor to his daughters and grandchildren. He stayed involved with their education and sports. He was proud of their accomplishments and always offered advice when he thought they could use some.
Jim had a large circle of family and friends. He tried to have a special connection with everyone – family, friends and strangers he met along the way. If there is one word to describe Jim it would be humanitarian. He was concerned with or seeking to promote human welfare, compassionate, humane, kind, good and sympathetic. He tried to make everyday an adventure. He felt he lived a full and good life.
Jim is survived by one daughter, Danielle Brackemeyer of Chandler, Ariz.; his close friend and life partner, Cynthia Anderson of Princeton; his self-adopted daughters, Vanessa (Terry Reid) Anderson of Dixon and Gina Anderson of Moline; his grandchildren, Cecily (Keyontez) White and Caleb Moton; and great-grandchildren, Ka’Anna and Kassius White, all of Dixon; his sisters and brothers, Mary Lynne (the late Leroy) Bowman of Sterling, Nancy (Erin) Winter of Apple River, Ill., Tom (Jane) Brackemeyer of Sterling and John (Teresa) Brackemeyer of Rock Falls; and many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling, with Pastor Dalmus Meeks presiding. Family and friends are invited to join us for Jim’s internment.
